Stem Cell Therapy for Back Pain Treatment

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are cells found mostly in multicellular organisms that are capable of undergoing differentiation to produce more of the same type of cells that they are. They are sometimes described as the raw materials of the body from which new cells are generated. Even outside of the organism’s, given the right conditions in a laboratory; these cells are capable of dividing to produce daughter cells. They are two types, which are:

  • Embryonic Stem Cells (ES cells) which can be found in an early stage of pregnancy which is the pre-implantation embryo.

  • The Adult Stem Cells which can be found throughout the whole of the body after development. They are capable of cell division to replenish dying cells and regenerate damaged tissues.

So what then is stem-cell therapy and why is it so important?

It has been discovered that sperm cells have a large potential to treat a wide range of diseases ranging from cancer to severe pains. In stem plant transplant, the cells from an embryo will be specialized into an adult type cell, and then it will be used to replace a damaged tissue after it has developed. These treatments can include replacement of damaged spinal cords or other neurological problems and also in the production of insulin for diabetic patients.

In theory, there is an endless possibility to the number of diseases that could be treated with the aid of stem cell research. Researchers may be able to study a variety of cell types and produce breakthrough discoveries in medicine and treatment of diseases. But this article will focus on the importance of stem cells in the treatment of back/spine pain.

Regenerative therapies which compass the stem cell treatment can clearly be seen in the future of spine treatments. Still, under massive development, experts in the medical field have already confessed to smelling hope.

How the regenerative therapy for back pain treatment works.

Stem cell therapy for back pain works by using the patient’s own stem cells, which are extracted aspirating tissues in the patient’s hip bone from the fat cells. The primitive cells that can help heal tissues are identified and separated by centrifugation. The primitive stem cells are then injected into the discs to stimulate healing. These discs where the stem cells are injected are usually the points where the pain emanates from, and the pains can be as a result of damaged tissues needing minor biological repairs. Not long ago, surgery had been the only option to explore to work on a damaged disc, but regenerative medicine has proved a way for reliable treatment without an operative intervention.
