FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Beijing, China (June 05, 2020) - Xinhua Silk Road Information Service offers reliable information about the Maritime Silk Road, one of the biggest initiatives of the 21st century, which is trying to connect people, institutions and businesses and aid in shared growth in an environment of business cooperation.

The Maritime Silk Road is believed to have existed as far back as two millennia ago, and began from the coastal regions in the south-east of China. It traversed a huge expanse of seas and oceans to nations in Europe, Africa and South-east Asia. It is in the city of Quanzhou that this ancient road is believed to have started from. This trading road connected the West with the East, to improve the exchange of culture, people and commodities among the nations located along the road.

In 2013, the Chinese Government proposed to revive this path to benefit the related people and nations and expressed the desire to create a new Silk Road together in the 21st Century. The 21st Century Maritime Silk Road will cover the areas of Venice, Athens, Nairobi, Calcutta, Colombo, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Beihai, Haikou, Guangzhou, Fuzhou and Quanzhou.

Since it was proposed in 2013, a number of nations have come forward to offer active support to the project and get involved in developing this ancient road in a new way in the new millennium.
