Steve explains further: "First of all, shampooing is a wet method of cleaning similar to hot water extraction. However, it is not very effective because there is no rinsing process and therefore leaves behind a dirty-soapy residue. This then causes more new dirt to be attracted to your carpet".

As it relates to Chem-Dry vs Steam Cleaning, Steve noted that the former uses a proprietary method of rotary dry cleaning. "Although it is not considered a 'wet' method of cleaning know that some water is used. Basically, the cleaning agents are sprayed onto the carpet, then a big buffer (like the ones used to polish floors) is ran across the carpet. Under the buffer wheel is a big, fluffy, mop-like cloth. This is what picks up the soil. Since there is no method to really vacuum out the dirt, only the surface of the carpet gets clean. It can’t get deep soil from the carpet," said Steve.

The Embassy Carpet Cleaners master carpet cleaner, however, added that the only difference between Chem-Dry and other generic rotary "dry cleaners" is that Chem-Dry has a patent on their cleaning product. It's carbonated. "In theory, this carbonation is supposed to lift the dirt to the surface of the carpet. It's kind of like how the air bubbles rise in a can of soda. Besides, since there is a limited amount of extraction involved, the carbonation effect is a moot point," said Steve.

Steam cleaning, on the other hand, which is overwhelmingly recognized as the most thorough and deep carpet cleaning method on the planet, Steve believes, "is the only cleaning system that combines all elements that are necessary to fully clean a carpet to its highest potential."
