FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 19, 2021: "Daughter of a Gun" is a book that Kaori Tanegashima has written. The book is actually an autobiography written by Kaori Tanegashima about her humble origins and the life that she carved out for herself by moving to the US, and all the unique experiences that she had in her life. The book depicts the imagery of Kaori Tanegashima as a little girl involved in a confrontation with the neighborhood kids living in Japanese-dominated China during the period of late 1930s as well as early 1940s. Incidentally, the author's father wanted to have a son, but to his surprise, his child turned out to be a girl. The name of the book is also a reference to that.

Tanegashima in Japan also means gun. The 14th Lord Tokitaka Tanegashima authored a book known as "Teppoki" that signified the story about a gun. Guns were introduced to Japan by a Portuguese captain when he came to the country. During his time in Japan, he also fell in love with Wakasa and eventually got married to her. Their son was the first mixed-blood child in Japan. It is believed that Wakasa was later murdered just before she was about to meet her husband, who was then returning to Japan. Later the author and her husband went to visit Tanegashima Island, where a space station was built during the 70s. The book also describes the hardships that Kaori Tanegashima and her family members had to deal with when they decided to move from China and come back to Japan. As she grew up, Kaori Tanegashima decided to move to the USA, where she confronted the American culture and way of life head-on and created a life for herself.

In her autobiography, Kaori Tanegashima describes the challenges she faced when she moved to the US and started a life there. The truly honest and unique account of her life, the candid conversations, allows the readers to develop an intimate connection with her when she narrates the complex struggles that she had to undergo in her life. The conflicts that she had to deal with were often related to the prejudices that she encountered while living in the US society. The prose in the autobiography is quite intense and feisty and is presented with an interesting sense of humor. Details about the way her family struggled as they moved back to Japan show the world that she and her family had to deal with during the 1930s and 40s. While they had to live by the support offered by a religious group, it did come with its own problems in the form of rigid limitations. Kaori Tanegashima also had to face complex expectations as an adolescent girl.
